What is Biathlon:
Biathlon is a combination of two disciplines: skate skiing and precision target shooting with a .22 caliber rifle. An athlete skis a loop of varied terrain that extends 2-4 km, then comes to a full stop at the rifle range to shoot five targets. This activity is repeated, depending on the race format. The athlete picks-up time, or distance penalties, for each missed target. Penalty loops are usually 100 – 150m in length. There are 5 different race formats: Sprint, Individual, Pursuit, Mass Start, and Relay. Biathlon is a great winter sport that tests skill, endurance, focus, and performance.

We are fortunate to have several dedicated parent-volunteers who assist with coaching, with the guidance of head-coach, Jim Crellin. Parent involvement is really important in Biathlon. Ideally, we like to have at least one parent for every athlete.

Our athletes generally practice as a group twice a week, on Tuesday evenings and on Saturdays.

Upcoming Events:
The BC Cup series is the premier series of biathlon competitions in BC.  The results of these competitions are used to select the BC Team that competes at the Canadian Nationals in March, and it also determines which athletes are selected to the Development Squad.
