Snowshoe Trails

The CSTC has built three snowshoe trails for the use of members and the public. Snowshoers who are not members are requested to purchase a day pass at the lodge for $5 per person. Participants may utilize ski trails provided they stay on the skate track opposite the classic ski track but are strongly encouraged to utilize the designated snowshoe trails.

The new Lakeside Trail of about 1 km total length can be accessed from the entrance to the parking lot or from below the lodge and proceeding to the Hallis Lake shoreline. This flat trail is only accessible after Hallis Lake is safely frozen over as it heads out and back to the East along the marshy shoreline. At its Eastern end it does a clockwise loop around a small meadow before rejoining the outbound route to return.

Wally’s Way is a 3 km trail starting by proceeding on the Pancake Flats ski trail and taking the cutoff towards the Biathlon range. The trail follows easy and rolling terrain with significant open areas which affords views to the east. The return is via the south loop ski trail.

Bigfoot is a more challenging trail. It is 6 km with 4 options to cut off and shorten your trip. The trail begins at the end of the parking lot on the left side before the traffic barriers. The trail meanders through a mixed forest of immature willow, birch and spruce to a flat bench of mature birch, spruce and Douglas Fir. It then rises to an exceptional View Point allowing good views of Dragon lake and the valley of the Fraser to the west and to Soverign Mountain and area to the east. At this point you can return by Bypass 2 or continue on the trail through stands of fir and birch, it then drops steeply down and joins an old horse trail which crosses the North Marathon loop. The trail crosses a large swamp and then into an area of birch and spruce before rising again to a significant rock outcrop with more great views of the Quesnel River valley and mountains to the east. The return trail follows a similar route to the outgoing trail to the trail head.

Bypass 1 is approximately 1km from the start and hooks to the Return Trail with a short 30 m trail. Bypass 2 is just below the View Point it follows an old road crossing Ronski’s Revenge it joins the Return Trail after a total distance of 300m. Bypass 3 is 500 m north of the View Point it follows an old bike path and joins the Return trail after 500m. Bypass 4 is where the trail enters the large swamp adjacent to the North Marathon Loop it hooks up to the. Return Trail 30 m east of the main trail.
