CSTC Sponsers and Supporters

The Cariboo Ski Touring Club is continually grateful for all of the community support for its events and activities and would like to thank the many members for countless volunteer hours and the following businesses for their continuing and on-going support:

2024 BC Gaming Grant

The Cariboo Ski Touring Club sincerely thanks the BC Gaming for its ongoing support.  The first grant was received in 2013 and has been repeated each year since then. This year the amount has been increased to $23,300. The grants have been substantial and have assisted the CSTC to fund many aspects of the Hallis Lake public recreation venue.

2024 Biathlon

We thank Westroad Resource Consultants , Jim and Charlotte Kurta, for their past and current  support of CSTC Biathlon.

2024 Ski School Grant

CCBC granted us $3000 for our Ski School Program.  We are hoping for good conditions and lots of school sessons next winter season.

2024 Biathlon Range Improvements

The CSTC had been seeking approval for several years for a project to improve and modernize the Biathlon range. Approval was granted less than a year prior to the BC Winter Games. The timeline was very short to obtain financing but several generous funders came forward to help with this critical project. Work was completed on this $80,000 project, on time, on budget and was a critical piece for the hosting of the Lhtako/Quesnel BC Winter Games.  The following donors provided the cash required:

    Cariboo Regional District $10,000
    Lhtako $5000
    North Cariboo Community Futures $2500
    CSTC $5000
    BC Winter Games Society $5000
    City oF Quesnel $16,309
    CN Rail $2500
    Enbridge $1000

      In-kind donations provided by:

      West Fraser $10,000
      United Concrete $4000
      Royalite $4500
      CSTC Volunteer Labour $17,000

      2023 Trail Improvement Project

This project improved the ski trail system to be ready for the BC Winter Games.  The total project cost was  $45,000 and was funded with $29,596 from Northern Development Initiative Trust, $6000 from the Quesnel Community Foundation, $2000 from West Fraser Mills and $1000 from Integris Credit Union.  The CSTC contributed $6404 in cash as well as volunteer labour.

      2022 Equipment for BC Games

The CSTC at Hallis Lake were hosts of the cross country and biathlon events Quesnel-Lhtako BC Winter Games. The CSTC now owns tents, competition bibs, trail markers and “state of the art” timing equipment for future competitions. CSTC volunteers built portable fencing using donated materials to delineate and secure key areas of our venue for competition. Quesnel Community Foundation provided funding of  $13,000. Materials were generously donated by West Fraser Mills and United Concrete.

      2021 Snowmobile Fundraising

Fundraising was completed in the spring with $5060 from individual member donations, matching funds from CCBC, $6000 from NORDIQ / Alta Gas and $11,840 from the Quesnel Community Foundation for a total of $22,900.  The snowmobile is a valuable addition to our grooming fleet.

      2021 Lodge Upgrade Project

The club can now host professional visual presentations with a large screen, high quality sound and comfortable seating, no more hard wooden benches!  The upgrade included 85 padded chairs, 135” motorized projection screen, high definition projector, wireless speakers, acoustic panels on the ceiling and a security alarm system. The CSTC would like to thank the major sponsors for the lodge upgrade including the Quesnel Community Foundation, Northern Development Initiative Trust, and a partnership with ABC Communications. The total cost of the upgrades was $18,619 and of this amount NDIT contributed $7,319, QCF contributed $9,500 and the CSTC contributed $1,800 in volunteer labor with a total of 186 hours. Thanks to ABC for their contribution of internet bandwidth for the 8 months of the year that the lodge is closed which allows the club to monitor the security of the lodge via the internet.

      2017 Event Equipment Project

This project included 15 Biathlon shooting mats, two fibreglass toboggans and 180 V-boards with a total cost of $11,200.  It was completed in October and the final reports submitted to our generous sponsors West Fraser Mills, Community Futures, and the Quesnel Community Foundation.  Thanks to Chris Elden and the many others who volunteered to manufacture 180 V-boards.

      2016 Lighted Trail Modernization Project

The project was completed in October of 2016 at a cost of $110,000.  All 77 of the existing high pressure sodium lights were replaced with energy saving LED fixtures.  Four of the existing poles were replaced and 10 new poles and fixtures were installed to light up the pancake flats trail bringing the total of lighted trail to 4km.  All of the electrical conductors for the system have been installed underground. Construction proved to be much more difficult than planned.  Excavation and back filling was very difficult with poor weather and very rocky ground contributing to the difficulties.  Volunteers of the CSTC pitched in a huge total of 575 hours.

      2015 Bearcat Snowmobile Purchase

The Bearcat is a state of the art snowmobile designed specifically for trail grooming and towing a Ginzu Groomer for trail preparation and setting tracks.  It was bought in Quesnel from Full Throttle Motor Sports and adds greatly to our grooming capability.

The Bearcat was purchased with the generous support of the Quesnel Community Foundation, North Cariboo Community Futures and the BC Ministry of Community Sport and Cultural Development.

      2013 Ginzu Groomer Purchase

The CSTC purchased the Ginzu as backup snow groomer which can be used with a snowmobile to prepare the snow for lessons and general skiing without the use of the much larger snow cat.  The use of this groomer has been extensive in the winters since it was purchased and is extremely valuable to the grooming crew.

Much thanks to the Quesnel Community Foundation for their generous donation to make the purchase possible.
